ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
Community Engine Company #2, located at 180 Wyckoff Avenue has played a significant role in providing fire protection specifically in East Wyckoff (East Wyckoff is the area of the Township generally considered to be between Cedar Hill Avenue and Goffle Road) as well as to the entire Wyckoff community.
THEN
Recognizing the need for fire protection in 1938, residents of the East Wyckoff neighborhood of the Township of Wyckoff declared themselves “desirous of obtaining and providing more adequate protection for this section (of Wyckoff) of life, limb and property against fire, have secured the establishment of COMMUNITY ENGINE COMPANY No.2 of the WYCKOFF FIRE DEPARTMENT”. The Wyckoff Township Committee confirmed this action on March 16, 1939.
In an expression of American spirit, 31 charter members/volunteers, personally built the original Fire House at 180 Wyckoff Avenue going so far as to pledge their homes as collateral for the cost to construct the building. (See the names of the residents who volunteered in the original document which is presented here and posted in the firehouse). The members of Community Engine Company No. 2 have served the Wyckoff community faithfully from March, 16, 1939 to the present day.
To preserve their history, the Fire Company has memorialized their history on a plaque. The plaque contains the names, photos, and dates of service of the Wyckoff Community Engine Company No.2 Deputy Fire Department Chiefs.
